Where to begin?
This weekend was packed.
Friday we took a day trip to Chartres,
about an hour train ride out of Paris.
Chartres is home to Chartres Cathedral
which dates back to the 1100's and has
the largest collection of original stained
glass windows of any medieval style
European cathedral.
After we got back to Paris from Chartres,
the real celebrations began!
On the night before Bastille Day,
there is what is called Bals des Pompiers,
or the Fireman's Ball.
These are pretty much big dance parties
that are held at different fire stations in
arrondissements around Paris.
We went to the 12th and danced
the night away to house music in
the presence of hot firemen....
we were in heaven!
And then came Bastille Day.
We strolled down the famous Champs-Elysees
with thousands of people that ended at the
Arc de Triomphe with it's tribute to the
Tomb of the Unknown Soldier which
stood guarded by military men.
If that wasn't enough to make the
weekend amazing, just add a 30 minute
fireworks show at the eiffel tower in the mix!
