After class today we visited the
Musee Rodin where collections of
paintings and sculptures are on
display in a garden and intimate
indoor setting. Some of the artists
included in this museum are, of course,
Auguste Rodin and Camille Claudel.
A little history behind that duo:
Rodin and Claudel were both very
successful sculptors who fell in love and
had a tumultuous relationship that ended
in jealousy of each other's work and
Claudel spending the last 30 years of
her life in an insane asylum where she
eventually died. Before visiting the
museum we watched the 1988 film
"Camille Claudel" directed by Bruno
Nuytten starring Isabelle Adjani and
Gerard Depardieu. I found it
ironic that the love turned hate
turned insanity between these two
famous artists who parted ways over a
decade ago would yet again end up
together to this day by the one thing that
they held in common: their art.
